Grant Program Grants are awarded in support of projects designed to provide educational opportunities and services to youth and adults in the Greater Washington Area, with a concentration on programs in Washington, D.C. Although the Foundation recognizes the need for a broad range of activities in the educational field, it has of necessity established guidelines for its funding. The Board reviews its grantmaking priorities on a regular basis in an effort to best serve with its finite resources the changing needs of the community. Proposals are reviewed on an individual basis to determine whether a project falls within the current priorities. The Foundation considers innovative and effective programs that strengthen academic education (enrichment and remedial), promote literacy, and provide vocational skills training. Unfortunately, the Foundation is unable to fund all of the many worthy requests that it receives. Organizations seeking funding should be aware that the Foundation generally does not support building or endowment funds, requests for equipment, research, conferences, special events or benefits, projects designed to educate the general public, or programs of national or international scope. The Foundation does not make grants to individuals nor does it give scholarships. A loan program for undergraduate and graduate students is administered separately. After full review of requests, which may include site visits or meetings with Foundation staff, proposals are presented to the Board for action. Applicants are notified in writing of the Board's decision. Organizations interested in submitting a
proposal for consideration by the Board should first contact the
Foundation for written materials explaining our proposal procedure and
requirements. |
